Cat Owner Woken Up at 3am, Unprepared for What They Find in the Bathroom

A cat owner went viral after revealing the hilarious reason they were woken up at 3 a.m., leaving internet users in hysterics.

In a TikTok video shared on April under the username @mila_n_miley, the poster’s black cat, Mila, can be seen frenetically trying to flush the toilet, as if she wants to hide something from her owner. “Woke up at 3 am to THIS,” the poster writes in the clip. “Please, just let me sleep once,” they add in the caption.

Mila could have chosen any time of the day to make noise in the bathroom. However, like many cats do, she chose the middle of the night. But why do felines always tend to misbehave at night?

Nighttime activity is actually pretty normal for cats. It is a trait inherited from their wild ancestors, who, as crepuscular creatures, would be up and active early in the morning or late at night, so much so that they developed incredible night vision.

This strategic behavior made it easier for wildcats to hunt prey while also being protected from other predators who weren’t as well equipped for night hunting as them.

If this behavior is disrupting your routine, then there are things you can do to change it, but, first, you must make sure it is not being caused by medical issues. Feline dementia, dental disease, or arthritis can also keep your kitty up at night.

If your cat isn’t spayed or neutered, mating behaviors may also be the source of the issue.

If your cat is healthy, playing with them before bed can help make them too tired for nighttime shenanigans. You could also change their feeding times to fit your schedule, as eating earlier, could help avoid zoomies.

The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 1.4 million views and more than 214,000 likes on the platform.

One user, TheSheffieldBard, commented: “Don’t disturb the void when it’s making acute scientific observations.”

Sharafchiger posted: “Mine ALWAYS plays with plastic bags when I’m asleep, wakes me up every single time.”

Egg added: “If you look closely … you can almost see a thought forming.”
