Cat That Sleeps in Bed Like a Human Wins Pet of the Week

From a golden retriever who made a transformation after being saved from the meat trade to a dog breed mix that left everyone scratching their heads, viral pet stories have melted hearts this week.

But we’ve also been collecting our favorite pictures and videos of readers’ pets for our weekly Newsweek Pet of the Week line-up.

Winner

This week’s Pet of the Week winner is Hexaba, and he’s no ordinary cat.

Owner Ghenrietta Von Bloome told Newsweek he is “wicked, funny, crazy, and an absolute delight.”

By day, he is an ordinary cat, but at night, his true nature emerges thanks to his love for late-night chaos. Whether it’s strategically scratching the walls outside her bedroom, or engaging in a dramatic midnight wrestling match with his unsuspecting brother Mittens, he is a master of nocturnal mischief.

When he isn’t causing chaos, Hexaba loves to sleep in the bed like a human, blanket and toys in tow.

“He brings joy and laughter,” Von Bloome said. At the end of the day (or rather, the end of the night), Hexaba’s charm is undeniable. He may be a marauder, a mischief-maker, a master of deception—but he is also a much loved little menace.

Finalists

The first finalist this week is Lefty, a dachshund fondly remembered by his owner Cathy.

He was a cherished companion, full of love, personality, and unexpected tricks. Lefty’s owner recalled the first time he sat up on his hind legs, a move that completely surprised her. “I was floored because I never taught him to do it,” she told Newsweek.

Later, she learned that this was simply something dachshunds do—but for Lefty, it became his signature way of asking for attention, treats or even just a hug.

For 17 years, Lefty filled Cathy’s life with joy, affection, and countless special moments. “I miss him so much but consider myself so very lucky to have shared life with him,” she said.

Next this week is Jennifer Collins’ Siberian Husky Titus. Since falling in love with the breed in 1988, Collins has had many beloved pets, but Titus stands out as a true savior. “He has been my little savior over the past two years, and my therapy dog,” she told Newsweek.

Titus has helped Collins through tough times lately, battling mental illness and recovering from a brain injury after a car accident. “Without my beloved dog Titus, I don’t know how I would keep going daily,” she said. Through it all, Titus has been her steadfast companion, offering comfort, humor and unwavering love.

Last but not least is Jasmine, a 10-year-old pup who has been part of Deedren O’Connor’s family for the past two years.

Adopted from a foster mom who worked for the SPCA, Jasmine has found a loving home despite the occasional PTSD moments. “We reassure her we are here,” O’Connor told Newsweek, highlighting the family’s commitment to helping her heal.

Jasmine’s journey may have had its challenges, but she is now surrounded by love.
