Cat Who Loves Fruit Is Shown a Banana—His Reaction Says It All

Internet viewers have gone wild for a fruit-loving cat not shy about sharing his disdain for bananas.

Amber Wells, 41, lives in Visalia, California, and is the proud owner of cat Bruno, who she described to Newsweek as her “silliest baby.”

The pair have a strong bond, with Wells having taken in Bruno and his siblings as newborns after their mother was hit by a car—and Bruno became the only surviving member of the litter.

“Bruno thrived, and I hand-raised him from 4 days old,” Wells said.

Now a year old, Bruno has developed quirks unusual to see in a cat—namely, that he is “obsessed” with eating fruit.

This quirk has led Bruno to go viral, after a video shared to Wells’ TikTok account, @amberloo_who, tested his reaction to a banana, with his owner assuming he would love it.

But he had the exact opposite reaction, as showcased in the clip posted in June, which has been viewed more than 1.7 million times.

In the footage, Bruno relaxes on the mantelpiece of Wells’ home, and as she asks him if he wants to try a banana, he first appears interested, moving his head forward for a sniff.

But it becomes immediately apparent that Bruno has finally found a fruit he doesn’t enjoy, as he jerks back and pulls a face, squinting his eyes and grimacing, with his sharp teeth protruding from either side of his mouth.

Bruno keeps the face for several moments, flinching again as Wells brings the banana to his face, as she lets out a laugh.

“That wasn’t just a no, that was a heeeeelllll no,” she wrote in the caption.

She told Newsweek: “I did not expect the banana reaction, because he is obsessed with other fruits—green apples, peaches, nectarines, and pineapple.

“He goes absolutely crazy when I eat any of those, so I thought it would be cute to introduce him to new things … and got this unexpected surprise!”

While cats are obligate carnivores, thriving on an all-meat diet, some do enjoy fruit and it is safe to give them certain types in moderation, as a treat. Apples, bananas, blueberries, kiwis and pineapples are some fruits suitable for a cat to eat, according to PetMD.

Owners should be careful, however, as some fruits can be dangerous for cats, including grapes and raisins, lemons, limes and oranges, and unripe tomatoes.

TikTok users were in stitches, with one commenter replying with a vampire emoji in reference to Bruno’s teeth sticking out, and another describing it as a “serious stank face.”

“My cats do the same thing. I had one that would make the face if she just saw me eating a banana and didn’t even put it anywhere near her,” another wrote, while a third added that Bruno “looks so offended.”

And as one comment summed it up: “He said not today, not ever!”
