Cat’s Dilemma as Dad Returns From 2-Week Vacation—But Treat Feeder Goes Off

Owners who go away on vacation can get mixed reactions from pets when they return home—but one cat’s conflict of interests in a recent Instagram video left users in stitches.

After being away for two weeks on a work trip, the owner couldn’t wait to see his cat, Snoop. He assumed the feline would be excited too, which she was, but the timing of his return gave her a dilemma. As soon as he walked inside, her food dispenser went off and, anyone with cats would know that food always comes first.

In the January 12 Instagram video posted by @only.snoops, Snoop contemplated between going for the food bowl or to her owner. She gave her owner a look of disgust as if he should’ve known better not to disrupt her meal, followed by a yelling meow before she made her final decision—food over owner.

The video’s caption reads: “I said hi!! In between bites ofc.”

She didn’t let her owner off the hook after leaving her with a sitter for two weeks. In between her bites, she screamed at him. Her intense meows revealed that she wasn’t happy. With this type of reaction, his leaving likely won’t happen again. Or at least he knows now not to disrupt mealtime.

It is fairly common for cats to behave differently after owners return home from a vacation. An article from BeChewy from last August stated that cats might act strangely or aggressively. This is because they’re sensitive to change and without you at home, their routines changed. Like dogs, cats can also experience separation anxiety.

Plus, owners will likely return home with new smells from their travels. This can cause cats to become confused and, sometimes, aggressive. The article suggests taking slow steps to help calm your cats when returning home.

Instagram Users React

Snoop’s epic reaction quickly went viral, amassing over 10.9 million views and 901,000 likes on Instagram as of Friday.

“Pls wait at the door until I finish my meal and will scream at u later,” one user commented.

Another pointed out: “Wow, competing with the food dispenser for a cat’s attention is basically a cat’s version of a declaration of love.”

A third asked: “That is so cute. Was she rushing her meal to get to Dad?”

@only.snoops then replied: “It looks like it!”
