Childless Friends Ask What It’s Like To Raise Boys, Mom Has Perfect Example

A mom from southwestern America has shared a perfect example of what raising boys looks like.

Julie, who asked that her full name not be published, posted a reel on Instagram of her 1-year-old Reece covered in mud; her eldest, Logan, also makes a brief appearance at the end. The “boy mom” (@baby_logiebear on Instagram) said that these two “messy wild creatures” were pouring mud on each other outside.

“They were having a blast, so I didn’t stop them. I just watched them having so much fun and not worrying about the mess that I’d be cleaning up,” Julie told Newsweek.

In her caption, she wrote that boys thrive in the dirt and being outdoors. “Honestly I love it. I mean, I wish all the dirt and mess didn’t make its way inside, but it’s still worth it,” she wrote.

For Julie, this kind of moment is part of life as a boy mom. She described the experience as a constant whirlwind of energy, laughter and mess.

“Being a boy mom is nonstop adventure, and there’s never a dull moment,” Julie told Newsweek.

“It means living in a world of endless energy, dirt-covered clothes, toy cars and monster trucks everywhere, and spontaneous wrestling matches in the living room,” Julie said. “One moment you’re dodging Nerf bullets, and the next you’re getting the tightest hug from your little guy who just wants to tell you he loves you.”

Julie said that one of the biggest surprises about raising boys has been their fearlessness.

“They will do the craziest things and, even if they get hurt, they’ll jump right back up and do it again,” she added.

Julie’s reel has been viewed more than 3.9 million times and clocked up over 47,000 likes. Many fellow boy moms commented.

“Raised 3, been there, and so loved every minute,” one user wrote.

“My boy is 22 but I recall those days of mud, and play swords tied to the waist for duels,” posted another.

Some pointed out that playing outside and getting muddy was a generic “kid thing” that didn’t just apply to boys, but Julie wanted to share her experience.

“Most people have loved it and agree that that’s exactly how boys are,” she said. “A few people have had issues with me saying, ‘What it’s like to raise boys?’ as if I’m implying girls don’t get dirty, which I’m not. I just only have experience with boys.”
