Chris Buescher Reveals Reason Behind Performance Issues at Clash Qualifying

Chris Buescher has pinpointed vehicle handling issues as the reason behind his performance troubles during the Clash qualifying round.
While driving his No. 17 RFK Racing Ford, Buescher struggled with a loose car setup during an initial practice session that lasted eight minutes. The team was quick to make adjustments, prepared in advance through extensive simulator work to improve the car’s setup and improve its subsequent performance.
These quick adaptations proved effective, as Buescher performed well in the later heat races, qualifying in P2 for Sunday’s race.
“We had the changes ready, so when we got there and realized we were just way too loose, we were able to make quick adjustments to get in the ballpark,” said Chris Buescher via a press release.

RFK Racing, where Buescher competes, has long been a fixture in the NASCAR scene, boasting a history that includes several championships across various series. In recent years, the team underwent a rebranding, becoming RFK Racing from Roush Fenway Racing, and refining their structure to stay competitive.
Their preparation and Buescher’s performance at the Clash qualifying reflect these efforts, as the team seemed poised to make a strong showing in the 2025 season.
Chase Elliott also featured prominently in the qualifying session, dominating the final practice by setting the fastest time and winning the first qualifying heat from pole to pole. Elliott’s performance was unyielding, securing him the pole position for the upcoming Cook Out Clash event on Sunday. Known for his strong performance, Elliott’s achievement comes as little surprise.

In the heat races, all winners managed to hold their leads from start to finish. Denny Hamlin and Tyler Reddick were among those performing well in heats 3 and 4, earning valuable third and fourth starting positions for the main event. As a veteran racer, Hamlin’s short-track performance is well-established.
In addition to the heat races, competitors will have a final chance to qualify through the Last Chance Qualifier if they did not initially earn a spot.

Kyle Larson, who finished eighth in the second heat, will need to rely on the LCQ to continue.
