Colts Coach Offers Bleak Injury Update on Daniel Jones After Jaguars Game
Sunday afternoon, the Indianapolis Colts lost quarterback Daniel Jones to injury in their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and a new update suggests Jones’ season could be over.
The starting quarterback went down in the second quarter when he awkwardly planted his foot to throw a pass. That resulted in Jones immediately signaling for the team’s medical staff to check on him. With Jones seated on the field, he also removed his helmet, seeming to slam it in frustration.
Eventually, the Colts’ staff walked him off the field and to the team’s medical tent for further evaluation. Jones was later ruled out with an Achilles injury, with backup Riley Leonard coming in to replace him. However, Jacksonville handed Indianapolis its third-straight loss, 36-19.

Leonard finished the game with 145 yards, along with an interception and a sack. To his credit, he also scored a rushing touchdown, but by then it was too late to make much difference.
After suffering the defeat, Colts coach Shane Steichen indicated (per ESPN’s Stephen Holder) the injury “doesn’t look good” for Jones as the team moves forward.
Along with that update, Holder also provided a quick video showing Jones hobbling from the field into the tunnel. His teammate taps him on the chest to acknowledge his challenging situation.
In his first 11 games this season, Jones threw for 2,840 yards and 17 touchdowns on 242-of-350 completed passes. He previously played several games despite a fibula injury, which some suspected was a hairline fracture. Both games ended in losses for the Colts, with the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans beating them.
Unfortunately, Jones’ season may have ended prematurely due to Sunday’s injury, as the team looks to preserve him for the future. There will be further tests and discussions to determine the extent of his injury, with news to arrive in the coming days.
Sunday’s win helped Jacksonville claim the AFC South lead with a 9-4 record, while dropping the Colts to 8-5 and into dangerous territory as other teams are fighting for playoff spots. With Leonard playing his first significant NFL snaps as Jones’ backup, it could be a tough finish to the Colts’ season after such a promising start.
Unfortunately, their next game doesn’t provide an easy opponent, as they visit the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Dec. 14, who, as of this report, are leading the NFC with a 10-3 record.
