Commanders Release Veteran WR Hours Before Kickoff vs Chiefs
The Washington Commanders have a tough task ahead of them as they face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in a primetime “Monday Night Football” matchup at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 8.
The Commanders are without reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, who suffered a hamstring injury during the team’s Week 7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Veteran signal caller Marcus Mariota will get the start in Daniels’ absence, and the home-team Chiefs are heavily favored.
Washington got some more concerning news just hours before kickoff on Monday.
Starting place kicker Matt Gay was ruled out for the primetime contest with a back injury, clearing the way for the addition of veteran kicker Matthew Wright.
Wright was signed to the Commanders’ practice squad and immediately elevated to the active roster alongside defensive tackle Sheldon Day.
In a corresponding move, the Commanders released veteran wide receiver Robbie Chosen.

Chosen was elevated to the Commanders’ active roster for last week’s matchup against the Cowboys. With Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel both out, the 10th-year NFL veteran caught all four of his targets for 36 yards — trailing only Jaylin Lane, Chris Moore and Zach Ertz in receiving for Washington.
Chosen, formerly known as Robbie Anderson, spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the New York Jets. He’s since notched stints with the Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins.
Through 123 game appearances in his NFL career, Chosen has 384 catches for 5,123 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Both McLaurin and Samuel will be back on the field to lead the Commanders’ wide receiver unit on Monday night. McLaurin missed each of Washington’s last four games after suffering a quad injury in a Week 3 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, and Samuel was ruled out for Sunday’s Week 7 loss to the Cowboys with a nagging heel injury.
Monday night’s Commanders-Chiefs matchup will kickoff at 8:15 p.m. ET.
