‘Connections’ February 15: Hints and Answers for Puzzle #615

Since its New York Times debut in June 2023, Connections has built a large following. Today, it’s the publication’s second-most popular game, just after Wordle.

How to Play ‘Connections’

In Connections, players are faced with the challenge of separating 16 words into four categories based on a common thread in four tries or fewer. Each category is labeled with a color based on the difficulty level. From easiest to most difficult, the categories are yellow, green, blue and purple.

For example, in Friday’s puzzle, the words “hiss,” “rattle,” “shed” and “slither” were associated with the green category: “Things a rattlesnake does.”

The blue category, meanwhile, was, “Words said to an unsuspecting person,” and the terms included, “boo,” “gotcha,” “guess who,” and “surprise.”

Wyna Liu, who creates the daily Connections games and is also a puzzle editor at the NYT, told Newsweek her secret to building the brainteasers is using her notebook and spreadsheet, which acts as a “digital sketchpad.”

“I usually don’t know where a board is going to go. It really does a long time to fudge things and try different angles,” Liu shared with readers.
