Could Desperate Twins Steal $60 Million Pitcher From Red Sox, Blue Jays?
The Boston Red Sox have added a few starting pitchers to the rotation this winter. Both Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler will come to Boston and look to immediately make an impact.
With that in mind, free agent starting pitcher Nick Pivetta is likely seeing his time with the Red Sox come to an end.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently named the Minnesota Twins as a surprise landing spot to swoop in and steal Pivetta. The righty is projected to sign for $60 million this winter, per Spotrac.

“The Twins spent $7.7 million last offseason. They’ve yet to sign anyone this winter,” Miller wrote. “But why couldn’t they be in the mix for Pivetta? They have a solid top three in the rotation in Pablo López, Bailey Ober, and Joe Ryan, and getting Pivetta at No. 4 could be what puts them firmly back in the mix to win the AL Central. They already have López signed through 2027, while both Ober and Ryan are arbitration-eligible through 2027.
“The same goes for Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax as the primary bullpen options. Might as well bring in Pivetta on a three-year deal and just go all-in (as all-in as Minnesota can realistically go, at any rate) on winning one soon—and worrying about 2028 another day.”
In the same article, Miller listed the Toronto Blue Jays as a likely landing spot before calling the Twins a potential surprise suitor.
Minnesota needs to add some talent and Pivetta would be a solid pickup on a short-term deal.
The American League Central is wide open for the taking and a move like this would elevate the desperate Twins toward where they want to go.
