Could Tigers Steal $158 Million Red Sox Superstar In Blockbuster Offseason Move?
🎙️ Voice is AI-generated. Inconsistencies may occur.
The Boston Red Sox signed Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120 million deal in free agency last year. However, his deal has an opt-out that he is reportedly going to use.
Bregman had an All-Star season and has become a key player for a young Red Sox team. He has set himself up to find a better deal on the open market, and the Red Sox may have competition to re-sign him. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Detroit Tigers could be in play to steal Bregman from the Red Sox.
“Complicating matters for the Red Sox, though, are the teams in need of better production at third that might be willing to spend for what Bregman provides,” wrote Passan. “The (Philadelphia) Phillies. The (New York) Yankees. The (Detroit) Tigers. And it will take more than three years this time even though he’ll be going into his age-32 season. After one of the more lucrative pillow contracts ever, Bregman is bound to get the five-year-plus deal at an average annual value of $35 million-plus that eluded him last winter.”

Bregman is slashing .281/.364/.485 through 95 games. He has proven he can still be one of the best third basemen in all of baseball. The Tigers are trying to capitalize on their window to win with Tarik Skubal.
They were also in the race to land Bregman last offseason. Adding Bregman would give the Tigers an elite hitter and a leader. The Tigers are already a contender, and adding Bregman could be the final piece they need.
