Cowboys’ Brian Schottenheimer Makes Head-Scratching Claim on Dak Prescott
Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are hoping for a major bounce-back season in 2025 after missing the playoffs last year with a 7-10 record.
One of the main changes during the offseason was moving on from head coach Mike McCarthy and replacing him with Brian Schottenheimer. George Pickens was also acquired in a major trade following the draft with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With those two moves, the Cowboys are hoping to see a big-time year from quarterback Dak Prescott.

Schottenheimer spoke out with some interesting thoughts about Prescott recently. He is working with the veteran quarterback to change some things about his game.

“I think Dak is in the developmental phase,” Schottenheimer said. “And that sounds crazy for a guy who’s played that much, but there are things we’re tweaking with Dak.”
Very rarely does a quarterback who is heading into their 10th NFL season get called a “developmental” quarterback. That isn’t necessarily a slight to Prescott, but Schottenheimer seems to be insinuating that the 31-year-old signal caller has areas where he needs to change things to improve.
Last season, Prescott struggled with injuries. His season was cut short due to a severe hamstring injury after playing in just eight games. He completed 64.7 percent of his passes for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Back in the 2023 NFL season, he threw for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns, and just nine interceptions, while completing 69.5 percent of his passes. He’s capable of much bigger production than he had last year before the injury.
It will be interesting to see what changes Schottenheimer and his coaching staff are working with Prescott on making.

On the outside looking in, Prescott is in a great situation. He’ll have a new offensive system, two elite wide receivers to work with, a solid offensive line, and an improved backfield. Everything is lining up for him to have a big year.
That being said, until Dallas can prove itself on the field, fans will enter the season with some reservations.
Prescott and the Cowboys will kick off their 2025 season with a tough Week 1 matchup on the road against the NFC East division rival and defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4. That will be a great test right off the bat.
