Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones, 82, Leaves ‘Landman’ Fans Speechless With Cameo
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
The Sunday, January 5 episode of Landman may have potentially featured a prominent character’s demise, but it’s a different moment that has everyone talking: Jerry Jones’ wildly unexpected cameo.
Jones, 82, has been the owner of the Dallas Cowboys since 1989, but he stepped into a new role in the ninth episode of the Taylor Sheridan-helmed series — one in which he gave Jon Hamm’s character advice, millionaire to millionaire. (Spoiler alert: The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with oil tycoon Monty — played by Hamm — suffering a serious cardiac event.)

“You’re gonna be sitting here sometime in the future, laying here sometime in the future… and more than likely your children and family are gonna be there because they’re your children and your family,” Jones said in the two-minute monologue, in which he played himself. “But you could have them there because they’re the people you spent your life with.”
The gravity with which he pulled off the speech stunned fans, who immediately took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their astonishment at Jones’ acting chops.
“Turns 83 in the summer and just dropped the greatest cameo in television history #landman,” one person wrote.
“Holy s***, someone give Jerry Jones an Emmy or something. #Landman,” another gushed.
“Ok but not Jerry Jones actually being a good actor,” a third fan posted. “This cameo was random and I eye rolled first seeing him but he definitely shocked me with how good of an actor he was. #Landman.”
“Last night’s episode had a cameo from @dallascowboys owner Jerry Jones as himself and lemme tell you: he did a damn good job. Surprisingly so,” a fourth user noted.
“Literally me when I saw Jerry Jones actually pull off a credible acting performance during his cameo on #Landman,” another person wrote.
Landman, which premiered in November, is streaming on Paramount+. In addition to Hamm, the drama also stars Billy Bob Thornton and Golden Globe winner Demi Moore.
