Cowboys Release Wide Receiver Jalen Brooks

The Dallas Cowboys have reached an injury settlement/release with wide receiver Jalen Brooks, ending his tenure with the team after two-plus seasons.

Brooks was drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of the University of South Carolina.

He appeared in seven games his rookie season, reeling in all six of his targets for 64 yards. He then doubled up his numbers in 2024, appearing in 14 games and catching 12 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown, the first of his NFL career.

This year, however, Brooks had appeared in just one game, and suffered a knee injury that has ultimately led to his release. Overall, he appeared in 21 games for Dallas, finishing with 18 receptions for 241 yards and a touchdown.

Brooks is now set to head to free agency where he can look for his next home. As for the Cowboys, they’re loaded at wide receiver after the returns of multiple key injured wideouts.

CeeDee Lamb made his long-awaited return this past Sunday, and picked up right where he left off, catching five passes for 110 yards and a touchdown. Lamb left the team’s Week 3 game with an ankle injury and missed Weeks 4-6.

Lamb wasn’t the only receiver to return in Week 7, as Kavontae Turpin returned from a two-week absence due to a foot injury. Across five games this season, the fourth-year receiver has 12 receptions for 176 yards and a touchdown to go along with six rushes for 23 yards. He’s also the team’s Pro Bowl and All-Pro returner.

While Lamb missed time, wide receiver George Pickens was putting together a Pro Bowl-caliber season. Overall this season, his first in Dallas after an offseason trade, Pickens has reeled in 36 receptions for 607 yards and six touchdowns, the latter of which is already a career best.

The Cowboys also have Jalen Tolbert, Ryan Flournoy and Jonathan Mingo, giving them more than enough receiving options for quarterback Dak Prescott.
