Pepper was initially questionable leading up to Sunday, but the Patriots have downgraded him to out. The move could lead the Patriots without a pair of their safeties against the Dolphins.

New England could also be without Kyle Dugger, who is considered questionable to play due to an ankle injury and did not practice all week. The Patriots have a ton of players who are unclear to play this Sunday, including wide receiver Kendrick Bourne (knee), linebacker Anfernee Jennings (shoulder), cornerback Jonathan Jones (shoulder), cornerback Marcus Jones (groin), guard Michael Jordan (ankle), center Nick Leverett (ankle), tackle Vederian Lowe (knee), safety Marte Mapu (calf), wide receiver K.J. Osborn (shoulder), and guard Layden Robinson (ankle, wrist) are also questionable.

The Patriots recently activated Bourne, who will be in the lineup for the first time this season against the Miami Dolphins in Week 5. Bourne has been inactive through the first four games of the season while recovering from a torn ACL. He suffered the injury last season in Week 8 during a loss to the Dolphins. Bourne was placed on injured reserve in Oct. 2023.

Peppers, who turned 29 on Friday, has started all four games and has 23 tackles, one interception and two passes defended. In his eighth season, Peppers has 494 career tackles with 28 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, seven interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), five forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries in 97 games (83 starts).

Peppers is in his third season in New England. Thus far, he has collected 161 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, three interceptions returned for 34 yards, 10 passes defended, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 36 games and 24 starts.

Peppers attended Michigan University, where he had a solid career. He was named a Unanimous All-American, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Big Ten Linebacker of the Year, and two-time First-team All-Big Ten.

The 29-year-old was a former first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Cleveland Browns selected Peppers with the No. 25 overall pick.

The Patriots are underdogs heading into Sunday with a +1 spread. According to ESPN analytics, they have a 59.3 percent chance of winning the game. New England will look to snap its three-game losing streak.
