Dallas Cowboys Considering Reunion With Former Lineman

As the Dallas Cowboys deal with some injury concerns early on during training camp, the team is considering bringing on some helping hands. One player who will be considered is a former member of the team.
La’el Collins is reportedly getting a chance to work out with the Cowboys this week. If Dallas decides to bring him on, he would be taking part in a third stint with the Cowboys.
The Cowboys will work out veteran OL La’el Collins on Friday, according to sources. Collins started 71 of 74 games in three different stints with the Cowboys, including a practice squad slot at the end of ’23. He did not play last year following his release from Buffalo.

The workout is set to take place on Friday. The team is still out in Oxnard, California, preparing for its first preseason game, which is set to take place against the Los Angeles Rams on August 9.
Collins started his NFL career with the Cowboys. After a four-year run at LSU, the offensive lineman entered the 2015 NFL Draft.

Collins went undrafted, despite being a highly-touted prospect. Due to off-field concerns at the time, Collins’ stock took a massive hit. After going undrafted, Collins received interest from the Cowboys. He signed with the team on a three-year deal and ended up playing a pivotal role right away.
In 2015, Collins started all but one of the 12 games he appeared in as a rookie. He appeared in three games during his second season, but was placed on the injured reserve after suffering a setback.
For the next three seasons, Collins appeared in at least 15 games in each of those runs. When Collins reached the 2021 NFL season, he was limited to just 12 games. He had to serve a five-game suspension for violating league policy. Collins had to battle for his starting job back.
By the end of 2021, Collins had started in 10 of the 12 games he played for the Cowboys. That would be his final season in Dallas, before he picked up and left for the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency.
Throughout the 2022 NFL season, Collins started in 15 games. Late in the season, he suffered an unfortunate setback, tearing his ACL and MCL. He started the 2023 NFL season on the PUP, and the Bengals eventually released him.
While the Cowboys picked up Collins for a second stint, he was just signed to the practice squad. He was not brought back for the 2024 season. Last year, Collins landed a shot with the Buffalo Bills. He ended up missing the final cuts last August.
There is no guarantee the Cowboys bring Collins back officially, but they’ll test to see if he still has some gas left in the tank. Bringing back a familiar face could be beneficial for a Cowboys team that is struggling with setbacks in the trenches.
