Danica Patrick Shares Heartfelt Message After F1 Finale And Confirms Sky Sports Future
Former NASCAR and IndyCar driver turned Sky Sports F1 presenter Danica Patrick has shared a heartfelt message to social media after the conclusion of the 2024 Formula One season. Patrick has also confirmed that she will remain with the broadcaster for the 2025 season despite significant backlash from fans.
Taking to social media, Patrick wrote:
“What a fun year to be reporting on F1 and be at the last race in Abu Dhabi! So many winners and so many story lines! 2025 is going to be lit!
“Most of all… I love my sky sports crew. They make work fun and are also incredibly talented and I learn from them every weekend!”
Patrick has often stirred up debate amongst fans for her strong opinions on various topics, including female representation in motorsport. Formula One has introduced the F1 Academy, with Susie Wolff at the helm, in order to give young female drivers a chance to gain an audience and work their way up the feeder series with the ultimate goal being to have a female F1 driver in the future.
Speaking about the possibility of a female F1 driver, Patrick has stated previously:
“Well, you’re assuming I want that, you’re assuming that is important to me, and it’s not.
“It’s always an interesting stance I have on it. I think that what makes the sport really popular is great racing – you can have half the field out there women and have it be follow the leader, and it’s not going to be interesting to watch.
“Good racing, and that’s what we have so much of these days in Formula 1, I mean pretty much everything other than Max is a toss-up for who’s going to be second, third, fourth, fifth that weekend, and so that’s what makes it really appealing.
“And so I think, as someone who obviously was a girl, you’ve just got to come up like normal.”
Sky Sports F1 has been making some changes to its presenter line-up raising questions about Patrick’s future with the team. However, she has now confirmed that she will be part of the crew in 2025.
This comes after the broadcaster confirmed that former F1 champion Damon Hill had left the company after the 2024 season. Hill confirmed the news to social media, writing:
“It’s been a fantastic 13 years with Sky Sports F1 but all good things come to an end.
“I will miss the most impressive bunch of professionals it has ever been my pleasure to have worked with. Looking forward to new challenges.”
