Diplo Announces He is ‘Tripping’ on LSD During CNN New Year’s Live

Famed DJ and producer Diplo casually revealed during CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live broadcast that he was “tripping” on LSD.

The disclosure came during a lighthearted exchange with co-hosts Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, as they rang in the new year with their usual blend of revelry and banter. The Grammy-winning artist, known for hits like “Where Are Ü Now” and his work with Major Lazer, joined the broadcast before he gave a New Year’s Eve performance at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles.

Newsweek emailed a spokesperson for Diplo for comment on Wednesday outside of normal business hours.

“What is the most, I’m so curious, what’s the most conventional place you’ve done LSD?” Cohen asked Diplo, whose given name is Thomas Wesley Pentz.

“Right now. On the helicopter, on my way here,” the DJ responded, which eventually had Cooper in stitches.

“Right now?” Cohen asked as Cooper began to laugh. “Please, oh my god, hold on, hold on, hold on.”

“I’m not even lying,” Diplo said, to which Cohen asked: “Please tell me, you’re tripping right now?”

“Yeah,” the DJ responded casually.

A clip of the exchange was shared to X (formerly Twitter) by user @sagesurge. “Diplo just revealed he is currently tripping on LSD… This is so unhinged,” the caption reads.

At the time of writing, the video had been viewed more than 522,000 times.

“So normal too. Never seen someone so controlled on lsd,” one person commented, while another wrote: “I love how Cooper loses it.”

A third added: “Nice to see someone tell the truth on CNN.”

The clip was also shared on X by the entertainment account @PopCrave, where it has been viewed more than 710,000 times.

“This is so on brand for him. He was in a group with Labrinth and Sia called LSD after all,” one person commented.

“Iconic,” said another.

Revenge Porn Lawsuits

In a lawsuit filed on June 27, 2024 in California, Diplo was being sued by an anonymous Jane Doe for allegedly distributing revenge porn.

The plaintiff accused Diplo of sharing intimate and/or nude images and videos of her with third parties without her consent. Doe claims to have had an ongoing sexual relationship with the DJ between 2016 and 2023.

“During that time, Plaintiff made it known that she did not want Defendant Diplo recording them engaging in sexual activities without her explicit consent nor did she want him to distribute images and/or videos to third parties and never gave him consent to do so,” the suit states.

It asserts that Doe was informed by a third party in November 2023 that “she was in possession of images and videos of Plaintiff and Defendant Diplo having sex.”

Bryan Freedman, Diplo’s lawyer, told the Independent in a statement: “In every case where there has been an allegation of improper conduct made against Wes, the result has been either an immediate dismissal of a bogus lawsuit coupled with an apology, a court-ordered award for Wes in excess of $1.2 million, or the slow demise of an obvious shakedown attempt that has gone absolutely nowhere.

“Time and again, Wes has been targeted by a group of untrustworthy individuals and their unscrupulous lawyers, cobbling together falsehoods in search of a meritless payday. This suit seems to be just more of the same, which is why we have no reason to believe that this will end any differently than all the others.”

This isn’t the first time Diplo has been accused of distributing revenge porn. In December 2023, he was under review by the Los Angeles city attorney’s office after a woman filed a complaint to the city’s police department, her second report to police over incidents that allegedly happened from 2019 to 2020.
