Dodgers Blake Treinen Agrees To $22 Million Deal To Return To Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Dodgers were big-time players in the Juan Soto sweepstakes. After spending over a billion dollars last offseason and then sending nearly $200 million to Blake Snell this winter, the Dodgers couldn’t compete with the $700-plus million offers from the New York Yankees and the New York Mets.
Ultimately, Soto agreed to a 15-year, $765 million deal with the Mets and owner Steve Cohen. In lieu of this mega-signing, the Dodgers have wasted zero time. Just before Soto agreed to a deal, Los Angeles agreed to a deal with San Francisco Giants outfielder Michael Conforto to steal the lefty from the hated division rival.
This wasn’t the only move the Dodgers made on Sunday night either.

Just minutes after the Soto news broke, reports emerged that the Dodgers had agreed to a two-year, $22 million contract with 2024 World Series hero Blake Treinen. The righty stepped up in a big way for the Dodgers in the postseason and he returns to Los Angeles largely because of it.
Treinen, 36, has spent the last five years in Los Angeles, missing the 2023 season with injury. The 2024 season was one of his better seasons as of late, where he posted a 1.93 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and struck out 56 batters in 46 2/3 innings.
Treinen stepped into the closer role for the postseason and made a few crucial appearances that helped secure the World Series championship. The righty was a candidate to sign elsewhere as a closer, but he ultimately returns to the World Series champions.
