Dodgers Considering Blockbuster Trade For Luis Robert Jr.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are likely to add an outfielder to their roster this winter. The top option on the market for Los Angeles is a reunion with free-agent outfielder Teoscar Hernández.
Hernández was a key piece of the Dodgers’ World Series title in 2024, but he hasn’t been re-signed yet and there are other teams chasing him, too. What will the Dodgers do if Hernández bolts?
Julia Stumbaugh of Bleacher Report cited a report the Dodgers are considering attempting a blockbuster trade for Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. Robert could be the perfect backup plan to Hernández.
“The Dodgers have reportedly considered deals for Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr. or Chicago Cubs right fielder Seiya Suzuki, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal,” Stumbaugh wrote. “Robert, who earned an All-Star nod and a Silver Slugger Award for his 2023 campaign with the White Sox, saw his production dip to career lows as he struggled with a hip flexor injury last season.
“The Dodgers could hope Robert will be able to recover to the form that saw him tie for the White Sox lead with 80 RBI two seasons ago.”
In 2023, Robert was one of the elite outfielders in the league. He slashed .264/.315/.542 with 38 home runs, 36 doubles, and pretty solid outfield defense. In 2024, he was nearly unplayable, but it was a season filled with injuries, so it’s hard to judge the year he had.
If the Dodgers pony up the prospect capital to acquire him, they would be adding a dynamic young outfielder with an unbelievably high ceiling.
