Dog Needs Legs Shaved Before Surgery—No One Prepared for How He Comes Back
A dog owner was left in hysterics when she saw how her dog was shaved in preparation for surgery.
Nikki, who posts to Threads under the username @nikkiwright5384, has gone viral after she shared the results of her dog’s shave, in particular how it made him look like he was wearing a pair of fashionable boots.
On October 8, she took to the site where she shared two photos of her dog, along with the caption: “When your dog comes home from his surgery and he has designer UGG boots.”
And sure enough, the photos show the dog with his hind leg shaved almost all the way down—but ending right above the paw, where his golden-colored fluff looks just like he’s wearing the iconic UGG boot with the furry tops.
Threads users flocked to agree, awarding the post more than 4,400 likes, as one commenter joked: “The vet/vet tech had some fun here!”
“This is so cute,” another wrote, while one called the dog’s new style “fancy.”
Plenty of people referenced the 2008 hit track “Low” by Flo Rida, leaving comments containing nothing but the lyrics, as one wrote: “BOOTS with the FURRR,” and another adding: “The whole club was looking at her.”
Dogs are shaved before surgery for sterility, preventing fur or bacteria getting into the surgical site. They may also be shaved in patches on their legs, for IV access to keep the pet comfortable and safe during any surgical procedure, according to the Mayfield Veterinary Clinic.
Nikki isn’t the only owner who was left in stitches from her dog’s new ‘do, as the internet is filled with stories of people getting not quite what they expected from trips to the groomers.
Dog owner Maddie Hilaski shared her Cavapoo’s transformation to TikTok account @maddiehilaski in May, showing how his soft curls had been replaced with a very close cut—and the pup had a grumpy facial expression to show just what he made of his summer trim.
And Instagram user @brunothegroodlelife racked up more than 3 million views as it showed goldendoodle Bruno after his owner requested “teddy bear chic”—but instead got “naked mole rat on a budget.”
Bruno had appeared to have lost a significant amount of weight, with his thick fur shaved off, and only the fur around his nose left long—making it appear as though the dog had a mustache.
Newsweek has contacted @nikkiwright5384 via Instagram for comment on this story.
