Dog Owner Checks Day Care Camera, Unprepared for ‘Mom Guilt’ She Feels
A dog owner has described the heartbreak she felt after checking the footage of her Cavapoos at day care and realizing what they’re truly like when they’re away from home.
For the last six months, Cora Lakey, 31, has been sending her two dogs, Dolly and Ernie, to a doggy day care facility while she’s at work. As much as she knew they loved going, Lakey was curious about how they actually spent their time there, so she checked the camera footage during one of their recent trips.
However, nothing could have prepared Lakey, of Los Angeles, for what she was about to see. She told Newsweek that the footage of Dolly and Ernie really “highlighted their personalities” and showed just how different they are.
The footage, which Lakey shared on Instagram (@cora.lakey), shows Dolly, 2, being snuggled by the day care staff at all times. Meanwhile, Ernie, 4, can be seen playing and interacting with the other dogs.
“Dolly is very snuggly, and every time I checked the footage, she was being picked up and cuddled by the workers,” Lakey said. “It was just funny because that’s also how she is at home, so of course, she’s the dog who wants to be held by the humans and not play with the other dogs.”
“I thought it was adorable and made me feel really good about our day care. The staff love her and said they snuggle Dolly all the time,” Lakey said.

In the days since the footage was shared online, it’s s gone viral with over 272,000 views on Instagram at the time of writing. The clip has certainly melted plenty of hearts as internet users can’t get enough of the difference between Dolly and Ernie.
Lakey joked in the video caption that “the mom guilt is so real” after seeing the adorable footage. While she does plan to keep sending the dogs to day care, Lakey couldn’t help but feel bad for Dolly, as she quipped that she’s “never leaving her again.”
Not to mention, the camera footage also gave Lakey a newfound appreciation for the day care workers, who ensure the dogs are always content and loved.
Lakey told Newsweek: “I think it’s a blessing because a lot of people have terrible day cares, but mine loves both my dogs just like I do. The staff recommended that I bring Dolly to more places and more people interact with her because she’s a great emotional support for people.”
In fact, Lakey is planning to volunteer with Dolly and take her to retirement homes, hospitals and care facilities. Dolly loves being around people and has such a calming presence.
Many social media users have taken to the comments to share their reactions, with one Instagram user responding: “It was hard to make friends…some dogs are introverts.”
Another comment reads: “OMG that would be really hard, but it’s awesome that [she] can be at doggy daycare with some pup pals too instead.”
