Dog Visits Neighbor’s Porch Every Day—Ring Cam Captures Sweet Reason Why
A dog has developed an adorable habit of heading straight to his neighbor’s house every afternoon to see if his canine best friend can come out and play.
Friendship forms an important part of any healthy dog’s life. In 2023, a study published in the journal Evolution, Medicine and Public Health found dogs who regularly socialized with other animals were healthier.
The findings, gleaned from survey data on 21,410 dogs, found five key factors affecting canine wellbeing. These were neighborhood stability, household income, time spent with children, owner age and time spent with other animals.
Of those factors, social support from being with other animals was deemed the most significant factor associated with better health with the study finding it five times more likely to play a positive role than any of the other factors identified.
Mako, a dog living out in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, certainly appears to be living his very best life, if footage captured on his neighbor Erica’s Ring doorbell camera is proof of anything.
The clip, which Ring shared with Newsweek, captures a typical afternoon for Mako, who can be seen on the footage heading over to his buddy Leonard’s house. It’s a familiar sight for Erica.
“Every day after work, our neighbor’s dog, Mako, comes straight to our door to see if our dog, Leonard, can come out to play,” she said.

While Mako is certainly keen on seeing Leonard, the good news is that the feeling is certainly mutual.
“It’s the highlight of Leonard’s day and honestly ours too,” Erica said. On this particular day, the Ring camera picked up a moment of drama as Mako initially feared his friend might not make it out.
When they are reunited, it’s a joy to behold. “We love this video so much because Mako is about to leave because he doesn’t see Leonard, and then when he does, and he gets excited,” Erica said. Luckily Leonard can’t open the door on his own, so Jason, my husband, let him out and he flew out the door to play with Mako.
The sight of Mako eagerly waiting for his pal to come out and play is one that never fails to raise a smile in Erica’s house.
“Watching their friendship unfold on our Ring camera is something we look forward to,” she said. “We were dying laughing the first time we saw Mako waiting eagerly on the porch.”
The two dogs are as thick as thieves, which is a source of some comfort to Erica. Whenever she realizes Leonard is nowhere to be seen, she knows exactly where to find him.
“Even when Leonard has managed to escape the backyard, we always catch him on our Ring camera heading straight to Mako’s house—it’s impossible to be mad,” she said. “Any time either dog gets out they run directly to one another’s house.”
