The Justice Department formally requested a court Friday to dismiss corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a move that had been strongly opposed by the Manhattan federal prosecutors who initially brought the case.
Acting Deputy U.S. Attorney General Emil Bove, along with attorneys from the department’s public integrity section and criminal division in Washington, filed the motion to terminate the case, though a judge must still approve the request.
This formal filing follows days of internal upheaval within the Justice Department, as at least seven prosecutors in New York and Washington resigned rather than comply with the directive to drop the charges.
