Dolphins Rookie Has Been Learning From Unlikely Source All Training Camp

The Miami Dolphins will look to get over the hump, finally. In the past two seasons, the Dolphins have failed to make it past the Wild Card round, and they’ll look to turn their fortunes around this season.

The Dolphins’ offense might be elite this season, but their defense has been questionable, which is why they went out and added yet another pass rusher, rookie edge rusher Chop Robinson.

Robinson will seek to play a massive role to start the season, as both Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips are still rehabbing from season-ending injuries in 2023. The rookie edge rusher will look to establish his presence right out of the gate, and he’ll do so by receiving some unexpected advice from an unlikely source.

Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN said that Robinson has received advice from veteran offensive left tackle Terron Armstead. Armstead has done his part to help the rookie grow.

“Just getting an offensive perspective, especially against one of the greatest, just learning from him,” Robinson said of Armstead. “I go against him in practice and he’s doing things that I’ve never seen before from an O-lineman. … He gave me tips on how I could work on that — I can’t tell the tips, but it definitely worked. I used it today and it definitely worked. I appreciate him for that, I’m just learning.”

The Dolphins selected Robinson with the No. 21 overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The Dolphins want to emphasize getting to the quarterback, and if they are healthy, they will be a scary unit.

Robinson comes into Miami after a tremendous two seasons at Happy Valley with the Penn State Nittany Lions. As a sophomore and junior, the 21-year-old recorded 41 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three passes defended, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

The rookie had a low number of sacks in his college career, but Dolphins general manager Chris Grier didn’t see that as a red flag. Instead, Grier says that he believes Robinson will turn out to be the elite product he believes he’ll be.

“His disruption numbers are all very high,” Grier said in April. “For us, working through the analytics, watching him and what he does and contributes, sacks people always want to — the guy that comes to mind for me would be Danielle Hunter had four career sacks coming out of college, and he’s become a really good player in this league.”

Robinson may have an unlikely source to help him out, but he’ll look to use that to his advantage.
