Dolphins Star LB Given Large Fine After Low Hit on MNF Against Titans
The NFL has fined Miami Dolphins pass rusher Jaelan Phillips $16,883 for a low hit on Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis during the Dolphins’ 31-12 Monday Night Football loss to the Titans, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
The fine comes after Phillips announced earlier this week on Instagram that he is out for the rest of the 2024 season because of a knee injury that will need reconstructive surgery. Not only is Phillips now out for the remainder of the season, but he has additionally received a fine.
“During the game on Monday, I suffered a season-ending knee injury that will require reconstructive surgery,” Phillips said in his statement. “I believe that our lives are defined by how we handle adversity. In these moments of uncertainty, defeat, and sorrow, it is natural to question your purpose and wonder what is the meaning of this pain. I know that my purpose is to inspire people and never give up, no matter how many times you get knocked down. I am a living testimony of the power of resilience and faith, and I feel the strength in knowing that my God is greater than any obstacle. Through him, I will preserve. There is nothing in life that you can’t overcome as long as you don’t quit. The mission is still the mission. I have unfinished business to take care of and IU will out of this trial victorious. Thank you all for your continued support and love. FINS UP.”
Phillips previously endured a season-ending injury last year when he tore his Achilles in Week 12 against the New York Jets.
So far during the season, Phillips had six total tackles and one sack. Over his four-year NFL career so far, he has 152 total tackles and 23.5 sacks.
Levis also sustained an injury during the game between the Dolphins and Titans. While diving for a first down against the Dolphins, Levis suffered an AC joint sprain and did not return.
Backup Mason Rudolph came in for Levis, going nine of 17 for 85 yards the rest of the game. The second-year quarterback is currently the NFL’s interception leader, having thrown for 604 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions through four weeks.
The Titans have a bye in Week 5, and the Titans believe he will be alright when the team takes on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 6.
