Donald Trump Floats Joe Biden ‘Comeback’

Former President Donald Trump suggested that President Joe Biden is set for a “comeback” in this year’s presidential election while slamming Vice President Kamala Harris over a polling “crash.”

Trump raged about a recent visit by Harris, who became the Democratic nominee after Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her in July, to a spice shop that he denounced as “ultra left wing” in a post to Truth Social on Monday.

While referring to the vice president as “Comrade Kamala Harris” and falsely labeling her a “Marxist,” the ex-president denounced her for urging “unity” at a store that he called “Trump hating.”

“Comrade Kamala Harris goes to an ultra Left Wing, Trump Hating, spice shop, which I hear has terrible, overpriced product, and calls for ‘unity,'” Trump wrote, referring to a visit by Harris to a Penzeys Spices store in Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Harris urged voters to “turn the page” on Trump while visiting the store, which calls out the “Republican Party’s embrace of cruelty, racism, Covid lies, climate change denial, and threats to democracy” in an “about Republicans” page on its website.

Trump’s post went on to speculate that Democrats would somehow put Biden back at the top of their ticket because voters were coming to the conclusion that the vice president is more liberal than some senators.

“As people begin to realize that she is a Marxist, FAR MORE LIBERAL than Crazy Bernie Sanders, or even Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren, her poll numbers are beginning to crash,” Trump wrote. “Who are they going to put in next? How about a Biden comeback?”

Newsweek reached out for comment to the Harris campaign and the White House via email on Monday.

Harris has experienced a slight downturn in national polling over the last few days, although it is far from clear that the change amounts to a “crash.”

A New York Times/Siena College poll released over the weekend shows Trump leading the race by 1 percentage point in a head-to-head matchup, which is well within the poll’s margin of error.

An average of recent polls compiled by FiveThirtyEight still showed Harris with a national lead of 2.8 percent as of Monday afternoon.

Trump’s post on Monday was not the first time he has speculated about Biden making a “comeback” and returning to the top of the Democratic ticket after dropping out of the race.

On August 6, Trump envisioned a scenario in which his former opponent would arrive at the then-upcoming Democratic National Convention “to take back the nomination” and demand another debate, claiming that Biden secretly felt he made a “historically tragic mistake” by backing Harris.
