Donald Trump fumbles Indian ambassador’s name during Diwali celebration
President Donald Trump mispronounced the Indian Ambassador’s name during a celebration of Diwali at the White House on Tuesday, introducing Vinay Kwatra at Vinay Kwatruu.
Kwatra—who was stood beside Trump—then lent over to correct him, after which the president said, “Ah, that’s right – I wasn’t too far off,” sparking laughter from attendees.
A 42-minute video of the celebration, including Trump’s mispronunciation, was shared on the official White House YouTube channel.
Diwali is the Hindu festival of light with the annual celebrations typically lasting several days.
