Donald Trump Rebukes Cattle Ranchers Concerns About Argentina Beef Plan
President Donald Trump on Wednesday defended his record on behalf of American cattle ranchers as he faced criticism from beef producers and agricultural-state Republicans over his proposal to purchase beef from Argentina.
“The Cattle Ranchers, who I love, don’t understand that the only reason they are doing so well, for the first time in decades, is because I put tariffs on cattle coming into the United States, including a 50% tariff on Brazil,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “If it weren’t for me, they would be doing just as they’ve done for the past 20 years — terrible!”
Trump said “it would be nice if they would understand that,” but acknowledged that ranchers still need to bring beef prices down.
The White House has been considering a plan to buy Argentine beef to help lower costs for U.S. consumers, a move that has drawn strong opposition from ranchers and Senate Republicans who are typically close to the administration.
