Donald Trump Teases Talks With Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro
U.S. President Donald Trump suggested his administration could soon hold talks with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
It comes amid a large-scale U.S. military build-up in the Caribbean under Trump’s mission to eradicate the threat of drug cartels that his White House has designated foreign terrorist organizations.
His administration has linked socialist Maduro to one of the cartels soon to be designated as terrorists.
Asked by a reporter on Sunday if that meant the U.S. could now target Maduro’s assets and infrastructure inside Venezuela, the Republican president replied that “it allows us to do that, but we haven’t said we’re going to do that.”
“We may be having some discussions with Maduro and we’ll see how that turns out,” Trump said. “They would like to talk.”
