Eugenio Suárez Trade Sweepstakes Takes Wild Turn For Worst After Scary HBP

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez is the top hitter on the trade market, and it’s not necessarily close. He’s been mentioned in trade rumors for over a month now, and it seems like it’s only a matter of time before he’s traded. With the trade deadline on Thursday, a deal could come at any moment.

But all these rumors are on hold for right now.

During the ninth inning of a game between the Diamondbacks and the Detroit Tigers, Suárez was drilled in the hand by a 96-mile-per-hour fastball. He was in obvious pain as the broadcast team noted how loud the sound of the hit by pitch was. Suárez would eventually leave the game, leaving baseball fans to fear for the worst.

The Tigers were one of the many teams reportedly interested in trading for the slugger. The Philadelphia Phillies recently emerged as a potential suitor, too.

The Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and Seattle Mariners make up the bulk of the remaining market for Suárez.

The Diamondbacks were reportedly looking for a haul in return for Suárez. In fact, their asking price for the slugger is likely the reason the New York Yankees dropped out of the sweepstakes.

But their asking price makes sense considering how incredible the veteran infielder has been.

But for now, there’s no trade to be had until the slugger undergoes testing and imaging to see the extent of the injury.
