A shelter dog’s sad expression has left the internet broken-hearted, after she has been waiting for a home for more than 303 days.
Julie Saraceno (@jsacareno) shared footage of Mommas, a shepherd mix, clearly saddened by the chaotic shelter environment and her confined space.
“I have volunteer friends at the shelter she was at previously, and they asked me to check in on her. This was my first time seeing her, and she immediately touched my heart. Sitting there, so patiently waiting for someone to notice her. I hope she gets her wish and someone takes her home soon,” Saraceno told Newsweek.
Saraceno explained that Mommas had originally been at the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter in Pasco before being transferred to the Benton Franklin Humane Society on November 13. She said the dog had technically been waiting for a home since January 22, and that staff estimated she was around 3 years old and a shepherd mix. The adoption fee is $150.
She is potty trained which has been proven by a clean kennel, provided she gets out twice daily.
“She is very bored in her kennel and has chewed up bedding and some soft toys, but I bet when she has her freedom those hopefully will stop. Please come see her at Tri-Cities Animal Services in Pasco,” they said.
Mommas first arrived at the shelter with nine puppies, who have all been adopted. According to staff, she is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves to play in the yard, retrieve a jolly ball, and soak up belly rubs.
She gets along with some dogs, so a meet-and-greet is required.
Instagram users were moved by the footage, leaving messages of love and heartbreak for the long-waiting pup.
“Hey pretty girl, sending love you from Boston,” shared one user.
“She’s such a beauty,” said Sandrine.
“This breaks my heart,” added another viewer.
“Save her,” added Lisa.
“Oh my god wait she’s at Kennewick now? I saw her at the Pasco animal shelter in April when I adopted my current dog,” said Lacey.
