Falcons’ Kyle Pitts Dealing With Injury Ahead of Week 1
The start of the NFL season for most teams takes place on Sunday. Week 1 is only a couple of days away, and while the excitement is at an all-time high, some players are dealing with injuries.
One player who just experienced an injury only a couple of days before the start of the season is Atlanta Falcons star tight end Kyle Pitts. Pitts will be limited in Wednesday’s practice as he is dealing with a hamstring injury, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris told the media on Wednesday.
“Just trying to be transparent about all that stuff,” Morris said regarding Pitts’ hamstring. “It really hasn’t affected him too much.”
There is no word on his status for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Falcons will host the Steelers for their home opener. According to ESPN Bet, Atlanta is the favorite in the contest, with the spread at -3.5.
Pitts did not miss a game in his second year in the league; however, his numbers weren’t impressive. The tight end only recorded 53 catches for 667 yards and three touchdowns in yet another underwhelming season for himself and the team.
The Falcons selected Pitts in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft with the No. 4 overall pick. The 23-year-old was a standout at the University of Florida and was projected to plant his flag as a top player in his position right out of the gate. However, that has been far from the case as he enters his fourth NFL season.
In three seasons, Pitts has recorded 149 receptions for 2,049 receiving yards, six touchdowns, and an average of 13.8 yards per reception. He came into the NFL with such high expectations, and he has yet to live up to that hype.
However, with a newly revamped offense led by veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins, the hope is that Cousins could help Pitts reach new levels in his game. Unfortunately, Pitts and the Falcons may not be able to experience that in Week 1.
According to Fox Sports, the Falcons’ over/under win total is set at 9.5, the highest set wins total in the NFC South this upcoming season. Also, the Falcons have +2600 odds to win the Super Bowl, the 13th-ranked odds in the NFL. The Falcons are -215 to advance in the playoffs.
Pitts will play a massive role in the team having a good season under their belt, and possibly a deep playoff run, whenever he’s cleared to take the field.
