Falcons QB Kirk Cousins Brought Up in New Intriguing Trade Option
Since the offseason, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins has been talked about as a potential trade chip. With the trade deadline coming up quickly, the rumors are beginning to pick back up.
Plenty of teams around the NFL could use help at the quarterback position. There are a couple who could use an upgrade from a starting perspective.
Cousins started for most of the 2024 season with the Falcons. However, late in the year he was replaced by Michael Penix Jr. He struggled with turnovers last year, but his numbers outside of the interceptions were solid.

Throughout the course of the 2024 campaign, Cousins played in 14 games. He completed 66.9 percent of his pass attempts for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.

Which team could swoop in and try to acquire Cousins from Atlanta? A new suggestion has pinpointed one potential landing spot.
Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News has come up with a trade idea that would see Cousins get traded to the New York Jets. Of course, the Jets have struggled at quarterback with Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor and are currently 0-7 on the year.
“The Falcons can’t afford to keep sitting on Cousins even it means eating some of his salary to make this work,” Iyer wrote. “The Jets’ winless season doesn’t feel like it will come with an Arch Manning reward with the Texas top QB prospect leaning to staying in school for 2026. So they need a strong pocket passing solution to save face after the Justin Fields failure. Speaking of Fields, he can go the other way to back up Michael Penix Jr., along with some defensive help.”
Should New York get a deal done with the Falcons for Cousins, he would immediately become the team’s starting quarterback. For Cousins, that would be a welcome change of pace from being an obvious backup for the rest of the year.

Obviously, this is just an idea at this point in time. It’s one that would make a lot of sense for the Jets, although Atlanta has not shown a lot of interest in trading Cousins.
Expect to continue hearing rumors surrounding the 37-year-old quarterback over the next couple of weeks. Cousins is still more than capable of playing. He would be a huge upgrade in New York.
