Former Champion Returns to WWE Action for the First Time in 18 Months

WWE superstar Omos made a surprise in-ring return at an NXT live event on Thursday night. The unannounced appearance took place at the house show in Columbus, Ohio.

Omos competed in a match against NXT star Lexis King. “The Nigerian Giant” picked up a quick and decisive victory.

The match was significant as it marked the first time Omos has wrestled under the WWE banner in all of 2025. His last official WWE match was in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the episode of SmackDown before WrestleMania XL in April 2024.

While he has been absent from WWE programming, Omos has competed elsewhere this year. As part of a working agreement with Pro Wrestling NOAH, he wrestled seven matches during a tour of Japan in January. He also made an appearance for AAA at their TripleMania XXXIII event in August.

Earlier this year, Omos revealed that he had signed a new long-term contract extension with WWE, making his long absence from a WWE ring a topic of discussion among fans. A former Raw Tag Team Champion with AJ Styles, Omos recently named Styles, The Undertaker, Mark Henry, and MVP as his key wrestling mentors.

Omos’s surprise appearance in an NXT ring has immediately sparked speculation about his future. While his return comes too late for him to be involved in tomorrow’s Crown Jewel premium live event, it positions him as a potential major player for the NXT brand heading into its Halloween Havoc special later this month. Whether this was a one-off or the start of a full-time NXT run, Omos has put the locker room on notice.
