Giants Listed ‘Likely Landing Spot’ For $152 Million Slugger Pete Alonso

The Pete Alonso sweepstakes is now down to a few teams as the offseason drawing closer to its end. Of the teams left in the running, the New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, and Toronto Blue Jays stand out as the potential favorites to land the star slugger.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently listed the Giants as one of the most likely landing spots for Alonso. Alonso’s rumored asking price was upwards of $150 million, but at this point, he would be lucky to land a deal worth nine figures.

“If New York is actually out of the running, though, the next most likely landing spot is almost certainly San Francisco. The Giants surely have room in their budget, but they are still nowhere close to their 2024 Opening Day payroll,” Miller wrote. “They also have been the kings of those “one year plus one or two player option years” deals that appeal to free agents who haven’t been as highly sought after as they thought they would be. (And those deals certainly worked out well for Carlos Rodón, Blake Snell, and Matt Chapman.)”
The Giants are facing an uphill battle as they chase the loaded Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. If San Francisco wasn’t desperately trying to add talent before, it certainly is after the Dodgers signed Kirby Yates, Roki Sasaki, and Tanner Scott.
Adding Alonso would be a huge move for the Giants. San Francisco has already added star infielder Willy Adames and landed a contract extension for Matt Chapman. Signing Alonso would bring a big slugger to a lineup that could use some extra pop.
