Giants Predicted To Sign Corbin Burnes In Dodgers-Esque Free Agency Move

After Juan Soto signed the biggest contract in baseball history with the New York Mets, all the attention turned to Baltimore Orioles ace Corbin Burnes in free agency.

The right-hander is destined to sign a deal worth well north of $200 million with some experts projecting his deal to be nearly $250 million. Potential suitors include the Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, and Toronto Blue Jays.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report recently predicted Burnes would sign his free agency deal with the San Francisco Giants. Jon Heyman of the New York Post projects Burnes to sign for $210 million this winter.

“The Giants, meanwhile, need a replacement for Blake Snell and co-ace to pair with Logan Webb, and Feinsand labeled Burnes as ‘an ideal fit,; ” Buckley wrote. “Feinsand added that the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles ‘could work their way into the mix,’ but it’s hard not to see one of San Francisco or Toronto getting a deal done.

“The Giants, who already added Willy Adames, could see Burnes, a California native who played college baseball in the Bay Area, as the perfect second splash to get Buster Posey’s tenure as president of baseball operations off on the right foot.”

The Giants would need to overpay if they were going to outbid the Blue Jays in this bidding war. San Francisco has already sent a lot of money to Adames while Toronto hasn’t spent in the same way.

The Red Sox should also be heavily considered in this sweepstakes, despite the rumors indicating they may be out of it.

The Giants would need to pull off a Los Angeles Dodgers-esque move to acquire Burnes. A deal would likely include opt-outs and deferred money as San Francisco looks to build a superteam of its own.
