After a 2-8 start to the season, the New York Giants have officially fired head coach Brian Daboll. The former head coach went 20-40-1 in over three seasons with the team, and has now been relieved of his duties. The organization has also reportedly made a decision regarding the future of general manager Joe Schoen.

Schoen took over as general manager in 2022 and has been part of some of the most controversial decisions in the NFL. One of which was allowing Saquon Barkley to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles. The dramatic exit of Barkley was highlighted on “Hard Knocks.”
The Giants have made some better decisions, like bringing in Brian Burns and drafting Jaxson Dart. However, Schoen’s body of work has made many question whether he will be safe in 2026.
Per NFL insider Ari Meirov, Schoen will remain with the Giants. That could change in the 2026 offseason, but the organization has only chosen to move on from Daboll.
Taking over as interim head coach for the Giants is offensive coordinator Mike Kafka. Kafka has had experience with being a head coach, which he did in the Senior Bowl in 2025 and Shrine Bowl in 2024.

The Giants team has been a mess in 2025, losing multiple leads in the fourth quarter. Daboll’s record and his inability to close out games are huge reasons why the organization chose to fire him mid-season.
It will be interesting to see how the Giants organization moves forward in 2026. As stated, Schoen has not made the most popular moves in recent memory.
Both Schoen and Daboll are at fault for allowing Daniel Jones to walk out of the building as well. Jones struggled mightily as a member of the Giants, but that was due to a poorly built offensive line.
Now, Jones is doing wonders behind center for the Indianapolis Colts. With a resurgence happening, Schoen’s downfalls are becoming more apparent.
