Giants Urged to Add $105M 44-Home Run Slugger to Join Forces With Willy Adames

The San Francisco Giants have come up short multiple times in recent years when it comes to acquiring top-tier players. That will end if shortstop Willy Adames’ seven-year, $182 million agreement becomes official. Should president of baseball operations Buster Posey make another big splash for Baltimore Orioles slugger Anthony Santander?

Adames will bring stability to the shortstop position for San Francisco, as well as the ability to hit 30-plus home runs in a season. The 29-year-old could be inserted right into the middle of the Giants’ lineup, per FanGraphs’ Roster Resource.

Adding Santander to the Adames-Matt Chapman duo would take the offense to another level. The switch-hitter had a career year in 2024 for the Orioles. He was named an All-Star for the first time while slashing .235/.308/.506 with 44 home runs, 102 RBI and 91 runs scored.

After agreeing to terms with Adames, FanSided’s Cody Williams outlined four blockbuster moves San Francisco should make next. One of those involves bringing Santander to the Bay.

“His power should absolutely play in San Francisco and the Giants also have the outfield flexibility to make it work as well,” Williams wrote. “More importantly, if the organization can move in a similarly quick manner as they did with Adames, they could potentially snipe other suitors for Santander, namely the clubs trying to see if they land Juan Soto and keeping the former Oriole as a backup plan.”

Between Chapman, Adames and Santander, the Giants would have a real chance at having someone hit 30 homers in a season for the first time since Barry Bonds slugged 45 in 2004. The Athletic’s Tim Britton projects Santander will land a five-year, $105 million deal this winter.
