Manufacturers of some personal transportation vehicles (PTVs) have issued recalls after discovering malfunctions that could potentially cause injury or even death.
The recalls involve two different models of Yamaha golf carts and two models of PTVs produced by Textron E-Z-GO. Neither manufacturer has reported any injuries or incidents caused by the identified issues, and both believe that the issues identified can be resolved by repair alone.
Personal Transportation Vehicles Recalled: What We Know
Yamaha determined the DR2A and DR2E golf carts, produced and sold between 2017 and 2024, with serial numbers J0D, J0E, and J2D (serial numbers located on the handlebars on the left side of the rear row of seats).
The recalled vehicles had faulty brakes, which could cause serious injury or death as a result of a crash. The company issued its recall on Thursday and has suggested that the roughly 4,300 units can be repaired to deal with the issue.
The Yamaha models ranged in price from $9,500 to $13,000, produced in Japan and sold through the Yamaha Golf Car Company of Kennesaw, Georgia. The recall number is 26-027.
Additionally, Yamaha issued recalls for its Drive 2 golf carts sold between 2021 and 2025 due to the lack of stop lights, which can cause serious injury or death. The company is offering free installation of stop lights on the vehicles.
Textron E-Z-GO issued a recall for a fuel leak in its RXV Freedom PTV produced and sold between 2020 and 2025 and the Valor PTV sold between 2023 and 2025. The leak occurs at the quick-connect fitted between the fuel line and the fuel injector mounted on the engine, which can cause injury and pose a fire hazard.
Textron E-Z-GO also issued its recall on Thursday and believes the roughly 90,800 models sold can be repaired. The Textron E-Z-GO models ranged in price from $8,400 to $14,000, produced and sold in the U.S. The recall number is 26-021.
What To Do If You Have a Recalled Product
Both companies urged users to immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact the respective manufacturer to schedule the installation of the respective equipment to fix the issue: For Yamaha, this requires new brake shoes and pads, while Textron E-Z-GO will replace faulty fuel lines if an inspection finds one in the recalled model.
Textron E-Z-GO will provide inspection instruction, or you can take the vehicle to an authorized dealer instead of the company itself, but those who cannot should contact Textron E-Z-GO directly for assistance.
