In the days before the Valspar Championship, six golfers withdrew their names from the field, opening the door for six new competitors.
On Monday, Keith Mitchell, Robert MacIntyre, Sudarshan Yellamaraju and William Mouw all withdrew from the Valspar Championship. Doug Ghim, Andrew Putnam, Kris Ventura and Justin Lower all earned spots in the field with the withdrawals. Ghim has parlayed his late entry into solid position, sitting just two shots off the lead at seven-under.
On Tuesday afternoon, Max Greyserman withdrew which opened a spot for fan-favorite Joel Dahmen. Just a day later, Akshay Bhatia opted not to play, which allowed Sam Ryder to land a spot in the field.
During Friday’s second round a seventh golfer withdrew from the tournament – though this time an injury was to blame.

Brian Campbell suddenly withdrew from the second round of the tournament with a neck injury, according to an official statement from the PGA Tour’s communications department. After firing a two-over, 73 in the first round of the tournament and carding bogeys on two of his first six holes, Campbell headed to No. 7 tee needing to catch fire to make the cut.
Instead, he hit three balls into the water and abruptly withdrew from the tournament.
It’s been a tough season for Campbell, who has missed the cut in five of seven tournaments and hasn’t finished higher than a tie for 54th, which came back at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
