Newsweek has contacted Kroger Stores and Weirs Farm via email for comment.
The FDA said the products, which are packaged in clear-plastic grab-n-go containers, were recalled due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes
Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, people with weakened immune systems and pregnant women and their newborns.
Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can be fatal in young children and can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
So far, no illnesses or consumer complaints have been reported.
The potential contamination was discovered by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) through routine sampling, the FDA said.
The agency added that consumers who have purchased the affected produce should not consume it.
It comes after Weirs Farm expanded an earlier recall of some of its bagged vegetable products sold at Walmart, Aldi and Kroger stores across 13 states out of “an abundance of caution” as it fears they might be contaminated with dangerous bacteria.
Products recalled include bagged Salad Cucumbers, Bagged Green Beans, Bagged Jalapenos, and Hungarian wax peppers, among others.
For more details and shops where you might find these bulk items, check the FDA report on the recall.
