Harrison Ford Announces Presidential Endorsement Days Before Election
Hollywood icon Harrison Ford has publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race with just 3 days until Election Day, adding his influential voice to an expanding coalition of entertainment industry figures backing the Democratic nominee.
The 82-year-old “Indiana Jones” star made his announcement in a campaign video released Saturday by the Harris-Walz campaign, where he stressed the importance of protecting democratic institutions and the rule of law while criticizing former President Donald Trump.
“I’m Harrison Ford. I’ve got one vote, same as anyone else, and I’m going to use it to move forward. I’m going to vote for Kamala Harris,” Ford declared in the video, taking direct aim at Trump’s leadership style. “The other guy, he demands unquestioning loyalty, says he wants revenge.”
Newsweek contacted Trump’s campaign via email on Saturday for comment.
Ford particularly highlighted the unprecedented nature of former Trump administration officials speaking out against their former boss, suggesting their actions carried special weight. “You have to pay attention,” Ford said.
“They’re telling us something important. These aren’t soft people. They’re governors, generals standing up against the leader of the party. They spent their lives advocating for many of them. This will be the first time they’ve ever voted for someone who doesn’t have an R next to their name, because they know this really matters.”
In another video released by Rolling Stone on Saturday, Ford acknowledged his disagreements with some Democratic policy positions while emphasizing broader principles that attracted him to the Harris-Walz ticket.
“But these two people believe in the rule of law,” the actor said. “They believe in science. They believe that when you govern, you do so for all Americans, they believe that we are in this together. These are ideas I believe in. These are people I can get behind.”
The actor, who previously endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020, expressed particular concern about political division while criticizing Trump’s international relationships. “The other guy, he spent four years turning us against each other while embracing dictators and tyrants around the world. That’s not who we are,” Ford said. His endorsement emphasized the need for national unity over partisan division.
Ford joins an increasingly prominent roster of entertainment industry figures who have publicly endorsed Harris. The list includes some of the biggest names in popular culture, spanning multiple generations and genres.
Musical artists Taylor Swift, Eminem, Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, Ricky Martin, and Bruce Springsteen have all voiced their support. The entertainment industry backing extends to acclaimed actors including Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Jon Hamm, Don Cheadle, and Mark Hamill.
Several prominent performers, including Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, Kerry Washington, and Olivia Rodrigo, have taken their support beyond mere endorsements by appearing with Harris at campaign events.
While acknowledging current national challenges, Ford pointed out the need for unity over division. “Look, I’m frustrated about a lot of things in this country,” he admitted in the video.
“I’m sure you are too. But the other guy, he spent four years turning us against each other while embracing dictators and tyrants around the world. That’s not who we are. We don’t need to make America great again. Come on. We are great, but we need is to work together again. All we need is a president who works for all of us.”
