U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs issued a preliminary injunction on Monday, saying the administration’s “misplaced efforts to control a reputable academic institution” threatened freedom of speech. The injunction extends a temporary order Burroughs previously issued preventing the administration from enforcing a proclamation Trump signed on June 4.
The judge’s order “will continue to allow Harvard to host international students and scholars while this case moves forward,” Harvard spokesperson Jason Newton said in a statement to campus newspaper The Harvard Crimson.
“Harvard will continue to defend its rights — and the rights of its students and scholars.”
