Heartbreaking Reason Lovable Foster Dog Overlooked At Adoption Event

Millions of dogs are abandoned by their owners every year in America, and many of them struggle to find a new home, especially those with disabilities.

A disabled Great Pyrenees from Minnesota named Olaf has left the internet in tears after his foster mom revealed that he’s struggling to get a new forever home because of his condition.

In a video shared on TikTok earlier in May, under the username wilfredthedestroyer, the poster said that after three months of fostering the pup, she took him to an adoption event recently. While he did get some attention from families, they immediately lost interest once they learned about his disability.

A caption reads: “Olaf has a neurological condition that causes back leg weakness. He can walk, run & play – he’s just wobbly & struggles with stairs. This has made finding his forever family incredibly difficult. No one wants to large special needs dog.”

A dog named Olaf, affected by a neurological condition, has melted hearts on social media after his foster mom revealed that he’s struggled to find a home because of his disability.

Each year 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, which is an average of 17,260 a day, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The number of dogs and cats taken in by pet shelters hit 46,807 during January 2023, an increase of 1,744 compared with January 2022, the 24Pet ‘Shelter Watch Report’ found.

Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation.

According to the ASPCA, of the 920,000 shelter animals euthanized every year, at least 390,000 are dogs and 530,000 are cats. Thanks to a rise in shelter adoptions, the number has declined from approximately 2.6 million in 2011.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 158,300 views and 17,300 likes on the platform.

One user, Robindawn1216, commented: “I want him to come live with me and my Great Pyrenees, khaleesi.”

Torrick&Books said: “Ugh I love him so much, I have a Great Pyr mix that has made me fall in love with the breed and special needs never scare me. We are in a top duplex though so we have too many stairs.”

PNW_SLAYER added: “Thank you for fostering him. Seriously the world needs more you’s. I’m hoping Olaf finds his furever home soon!”
