Hearts Melt at Dog’s Reaction To Being Told Owner Is Coming Home
A dog’s emotional reaction to the news that his owner is returning home after two months has melted the hearts of viewers on TikTok, as pup lovers praised the canine’s seemingly humanlike understanding and devotion.
The video, shared by the dog’s owner under @idkbutiloveithere on October 20, shows the moment the dog, who appears to be a German shepherd mix, learnt that someone named Hannah is on her way back home. As the voice behind the camera said, “I have some news … Hannah’s coming home today,” the canine immediately bolted upright, scanned the room and began to whine in anticipation.
An overlaid text on the video read: “My dog’s reaction to me coming home after two months away.”
The post, captioned, “I swear he knows English,” has been liked more than 54,000 times and flooded with comments from viewers who were both amused and touched. Several have shared how similarly their own dogs react when they are told of their imminent arrival, while others requested that the pet’s owner share how the canine reacted when she did arrive home.
“I need to see the homecoming video,” one viewer said, while another added: “Need an update of Hannah coming home.”
“I hope we get to see the reunion. This was adorable,” a third viewer shared.
“He definitely knows English! Best news,” one commenter added.
“I am sat here in the comments. Going to need to see the homecoming,” another said.
“My pup knew my name too if someone yelled it, she growled in response,” a third commented.
“I KNOW for a FACT my dog understands me when I talk,” a different viewer said.
“Dogs know more than they get credit for,” another added.
“And some say animals don’t understand,” a third said.
“My dog was the same when I went to college,” a fourth shared. “He wouldn’t eat for days when I’d leave and go back.”
“I always tell my Stella when my [long distance relationship] is coming to visit … She waits by the door waiting [and] whining. She gets the first kisses,” one commenter added.
Such emotional displays from dogs are not uncommon, according to similar moments often documented on social platforms.
These viral moments reflect the deep emotional connections canines form with their owners. The American Kennel Club notes that most dog breeds are regarded for their loyalty and sensitivity.
