Heroic Woman Saves Puppy Left in Crate on Florida Roadside

A woman’s heroic rescue of a puppy from a Florida roadside during a bout of extreme weather has been applauded by viewers online.

Lacey Moorlag, known on social media as @laceykalin, had taken to TikTok to shed light on the plight of a vulnerable Rottweiler puppy she found in dire conditions on a Tampa Bay, Florida, roadside. Newsweek reached out to the poster for more information via TikTok.

The video, posted on August 31, has garnered over 387,000 views, drawing widespread acclaim for Moorlag’s compassionate intervention, which resulted in her taking the dog home. She updated viewers in the comments section that the puppy, who is named Pete, has since found an “amazing home.”

The clip begins with Moorlag stumbling upon the distressing scene of the puppy for sale and confined in a crate on a roadside in Tampa Bay as she was driving past.

The conditions were appalling—the dog had been left without shade or water in the sweltering 97-degree-Fahrenheit Florida heat.

An overlaid text on the clip read: “When you see a puppy for sale with no shade or water in 97-degree Florida, who needs a Rottweiler puppy?”

Moved by the puppy’s plight, Moorlag decided to take decisive action. The video documents her carefully rescuing the dog, and subsequent clips show the puppy settling into the comfort and safety of her car, a stark contrast to the harsh conditions he had been subjected to moments earlier.

The puppy’s journey continued to Moorlag’s home, where he is seen relaxing in a cool, soothing environment.

Moorlag captioned the post: “Well …. Couldn’t leave this guy out in the Florida heat. He’s safe and cool with me inside. Who’s looking for their new best friend?”

Her call to action sought to find the puppy a loving, permanent home, and has since succeeded.

The video has struck a chord with viewers online, who have expressed their admiration and gratitude for Moorlag’s heroic deed.

“Thank you for saving that innocent, baby you beautiful soul,” one viewer, @crazylouann420, posted.

Another, @hananaobanana, added: “You can tell by how terrified he is that he was not treated well so far and that breaks my heart makes me so happy knowing you’re the one that saved him.”

Moorlag had told commenters that she had called the police to alert them of the dog sale, but that little was done because it is not an illegal activity in Florida.
