How Disney World Is Preparing for Hurricane Milton
Florida’s Disney World is making preparations for Hurricane Milton as the major storm is expected to soon make landfall.
As the storm is due to hit the Sunshine State’s west coast on Wednesday, the Orlando-based park has announced limited closures of some of its operations from October 9. “Milton is expected to grow in size and remain an extremely dangerous hurricane when it approaches the west coast of Florida on Wednesday,” the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in an update on Tuesday morning.
“We are closely monitoring the path of the projected storm, and the safety of our Guests and Cast Members remains our top priority,” the company said in a statement on its website. “Looking ahead, we are making adjustments based on the latest weather forecast and some areas with unique environments.”
Is Disney World Closed?
Walt Disney World Resort is “currently operating under normal conditions,” although some parts have been closed.
The resort is “making adjustments based on the latest weather forecast and certain areas with unique environments,” according to its website as of Monday at 6 p.m. ET.
The adjustments include the closure of its Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and its dining and recreation areas, Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa starting Wednesday, October 9, at 11 a.m. ET.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa are expected to remain closed until Sunday, October 13. Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge are expected to reopen on Friday, October 11, according to its website.
Cancellation Policy
In the event that the resort must close due to Milton, Disney’s website states that if a NHC warning is issued for the park area or your place of residence within seven days of your arrival, rescheduling or cancelling your trip is free of charge if booked directly with Disney.
This does not cover products and services “provided by third-party suppliers included in your vacation—such as air transportation, hotels, car rental agencies or travel insurance companies.”
If you didn’t book your stay directly with Disney, you must contact your original booking provider to enquire about cancellation and rescheduling policies.
According to a report by People Magazine, Disney stopped accepting new reservations for Wednesday and Thursday, when the hurricane is expected across the state.
Newsweek contacted Disney via email for comment outside of standard working hours.
Are Others Parks and Resorts Closed?
Universal Orlando Resort has said the park’s “operations and hours are continuing as normal” and that it is “closely monitoring the weather.”
“At this time, SeaWorld Orlando remains open as we continue to monitor conditions,” SeaWorld said in an update on its website.
