How Jill Duggar Just Honored Her Stillborn Daughter
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Jill Duggar and her husband, Derick Dillard, made a bittersweet visit to their daughter Isla Marie’s gravesite — six months after her stillbirth.
Taking to Instagram to share the tender moment on Wednesday, October 16, the 33-year-old TLC star posted a clip of the duo and their youngest son, Fredrick (Freddie), picking out flowers. “We just got the call that Isla’s marker is ready and it has been placed, so we are gonna run over to her cemetery and go see her marker for the first time, give her some fresh flowers,” Duggar said.
The short video then showed them arriving at the cemetery, where their 2-year-old helped lay the flowers by Isla’s marker, which reads, “Isla Marie Dillard, March 19, 2024. Born into the arms of Jesus. Loved & missed by her papa and mama & 3 big brothers.”
After Duggar posted the clip on social media, it didn’t take long for support to start pouring in from followers.
“Looks lovely 🌸🌼Your Little Guardian Angel always looking after you All🤍sending you All hugs!” one person commented.
“You picked a beautiful stone for her ❤️ 25 years later and my mom and I still put flowers at my sister’s stone. Sending you all strength and love!!” another added.
“What a lovely day to celebrate your precious little lady’s life. You will see her again one day. Hugs to you all,” chimed in a third.
This isn’t the first time the 19 Kids and Counting alum has shared openly about her grief. Back in April, the family held a funeral service for Isla. Duggar posted a carousel of pictures to Instagram, one of which depicted a small white box surrounded by flowers and a stuffed animal. Her caption read, “🩷Isla Marie, our baby girl. We will love you forever & hold you in our hearts until we hold you in heaven. 🩷 Laid to rest 4.19.2024.”
The couple have been through a lot, including a previous miscarriage in 2021. “We recently found out we were expecting our third baby,” the second daughter of the Duggar bunch captioned an Instagram video at the time. “We were thrilled! However, a few days later we started miscarrying. We love and miss you River Bliss!”
Duggar and Dillard, 35, tied the knot in June 2014. In addition to little Freddie, the duo are parents to two other sons: Israel, 9, and Samuel, 6.
