How Kesha Just Officially Slammed Diddy Amid His Sex Trafficking Case

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

Kesha has caught many people’s attention by teasing a new and improved version of her iconic hit, “TiK ToK.”

In a TikTok shared by the singer on Wednesday, September 18, the new version of the song now features a bold new lyric aimed at Sean “Diddy” Combs. Originally released in 2009, the song famously began with the line, “Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy.” However, following a series of serious allegations against the rapper, Kesha, 37, has changed the lyric in her live performances to, “Wake up in the morning like ‘f*** P Diddy.'”

It’s safe to say fans loved the lyric change, and let it be known in the comments on the video. “Hey Kesha babe can we get this version put on spotify please cause this one of my favorite songs,” quipped one fan. “mother is correcting and teaching 💅,” another noted.

Many fans admitted they had no idea who the R&B singer was. “the fact that I still only know p Diddy as a guy from Kesha song 💀,” one user said, while another agreed, “I didn’t know who p Diddy was when I was 10 and I still don’t know at 25.”

The Grammy nominee announced her intention to make this new line permanent and to record an updated version of the song once she has the legal rights in a post made on X (formerly known as Twitter) back in August. This promise came into fruition in the TikTok post late Wednesday night, coinciding with news that Diddy, 54, had been denied bail as he awaits trial for sex trafficking.

Kesha has expressed gratitude to fellow singer Renée Rapp for inspiring the new lyric after they performed together at Coachella earlier this Spring. Kesha has shared mixed feelings about this hit song in the past, revealing that her original writing process felt stifled. “I started ‘TiK ToK’ not being quite so dumb, and then the writing room was like, ‘Make it dumber,'” she explained.

Celebrating the 15th anniversary of “TiK ToK,” Kesha reminisced about the song’s significance in her life. “It was the first single that I put into this world that had my voice AND my name credited,” she recalled. “What I’m so proud of is that’s how this song STILL makes me feel, through it all.”
